Apparently Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has sent a secret memo to US joint chiefs of staff Admiral Mike Mullen. The memo reportedly requests American intervention in the event of a Pakistani army coup. Zardari also offered to create a new pro-US security team and even promised to hand over Pakistan-based terrorists.
PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif called this a “matter of shame.” He accused President Zardari of selling out the country’s sovereignty only to safeguard its interests.
Mr. Zardari, if you’re argument from the beginning has been that you do not know where the terrorists are, and that your government is not powerful enough or funded enough to find them, how can you now with a straight face say that you will hand over those very same terrorists?
Hussain Haqqani, Pakistani Ambassador to the US, has offered to resign because of this controversy and Admiral Mike Mullen has acknowledged receiving the memo.
